Elisa's commitment to connecting, engaging, and serving the greater good began at a young age. After losing her mother at the age of 12, Elisa was raised by her aunt and assisted in the operations of the family’s now 58-year old restaurant, Los Compadres Mexican Restaurant, the oldest in Downtown Hayward.
Elisa received her entire education via local public schools, graduating from Hayward High School in 1996, earning her BA from Cal State Hayward in 2001 and a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from Cal State East Bay in 2012. With the support of teachers and mentors from many walks of life, Elisa is proud to now be investing her education to benefit all Alameda County residents.
Elisa’s public service journey began in 2008 when she was appointed to the Hayward Planning Commission. Later, in 2014, she was appointed to the Hayward City Council, where Elisa successfully ran for election in 2016 and was the top vote-getter in her 2020 reelection. Elisa’s career has also been enriched by serving as a Probate Court Investigator for the California Superior Court for nearly 11 years, as well as many regional leadership roles, including serving on the Alameda County Mosquito Abatement District, as Chair of East Bay Community Energy, and as Vice Chair of the Alameda County Democratic Central Committee, among many others over the last two decades.
An active volunteer, donor and supporter of hard-working causes and community organizations, Elisa is committed to advancing the work of A-1 Community Housing Services, Centro de Servicios in Union City, Hayward Black Business Roundtable, La Alianza de Hayward, South Hayward Parish, Tennyson All America Festival, Tiburcio Vasquez Promotoras program, Viola Blythe Community Service Center, and Washington Hospital Service League of Volunteers among many others.
Elisa is committed to uplifting all residents, listening, and collaborating to help all local communities thrive, and working to ensure economic mobility for all. She will continue to dedicate her life’s work to championing policies and initiatives that create safer, more sustainable, and engaged communities with affordable homes, vibrant libraries and community spaces, services for residents who are homeless, small business expansion, quality jobs, and services that help improve the quality of education so all young people can access a path to success in college, careers and life.
Deeply rooted in the East Bay, Elisa lives in the same south Hayward home that she was born and raised in to become who she is today. Outside of her tireless work on behalf of the people of Alameda County, Elisa is a proud mother of an adult daughter and enjoys spending her free time with her family and big puppy, Zito.
